District Election Officer Zillur Rahman said a person named Abdur Rasheed collected the nomination papers on his behalf on Sunday evening. Mainul Hasan, son of Abdus Sattar, confirmed the matter with Prothom Alo.
According to locals and the party, Abdus Sattar submitted his resignation to the party’s president’s office on Thursday night. As a BNP candidate, he was elected MLA from Brahmanbaria-2 seat in the 11th parliamentary elections. The veteran politician then resigned from Parliament on December 11 following the party’s decision.
