Dhaka seeks OIC, UNHCR’s strong support for permanent Rohingya solution

A press release from the Ministry of External Affairs said that the Foreign Secretary said this during a meeting with a joint delegation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees at the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday.

In the meeting, Foreign Secretary also urged the joint delegation to mobilize strong international support to ensure a permanent solution to this tragic crisis and to continue humanitarian assistance till repatriation.

The OIC delegation was led by Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakhet, the UNHRC delegation, Senior Advisor to the High Commissioner, and Khalid Khalifa, the UNHCR representative for the GCC countries and other development partners. Visiting Bangladesh from 6th to 11th August to take stock of the situation of Rohingyas.

Masood bin Momen said that under the astute leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Bangladesh government has provided shelter and security to Rohingyas forcibly displaced from their ancestral homeland, Myanmar.
