Indefinite transport strike called off

Transport workers called off their indefinite transport strike in 21 districts of South-western region including 10 districts under Khulna division.

Earlier on Wednesday, they enforced the strike demanding immediate release of the bus driver Jamir Uddin who was arrested in connection with the deaths of Tareque Masud and Ashfaque Munier Mishuk.

Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation called off the strike around 12noon after the Communication Minister Syed Abul Hossain assured the workers that their demands would be fulfilled.

The transport workers also demanded the exemption of drivers from Section 302 of Bangladesh Penal Code.

Filmmaker Tareque Masud, chief executive officer (CEO) of ATN News Ashfaque Munier and three others were killed on August 13 when a passenger bus of Chuadanga Deluxe hit their microbus on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ghior upazila of Manikganj.

The driver of the bus, Jamir Uddin, was arrested in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on August 15.
