Syeda Rizwana Hasan highlighted that 3,000 factories in the country are producing 14 million polythene bags every day. He suggested using eco-friendly biodegradable indigenous materials like jute, cloth etc. instead of single-use plastics for product packaging and everyday shopping.

He said this approach will not only protect the environment but also contribute to the expansion of domestic products.

In an effort to tackle plastic pollution, top local and multinational companies have formed the ‘Bangladesh Sustainability Alliance’ (BSA) in November 2023 in the presence of the Prime Minister’s then Special Envoy on Environment and Climate Change, Sabar Hossain Chowdhury.

BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh moderated the question-and-answer session. In his speech he said that BSA serves as a platform where diverse perspectives on stopping plastic pollution and protecting the environment are welcomed and encouraged. Introducing Syeda Rizwana Hasan to the audience, she mentioned that she is universally recognized for her intelligence, knowledge, candor and bold actions in environmental protection.
