Filatov said two stairwells were destroyed, along with dozens of flats.

Russia fired two waves of missiles into Ukraine on Saturday, hitting targets across the country, as fighting raged in the eastern towns of Soledar and Bakhmut.

Moscow, which invaded last February, has been pounding Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with missiles and drones since October, causing widespread blackouts and interruptions to central heating and running water.

In a statement on Sunday about its previous day of attacks, the Russian Defense Ministry did not mention Dnipro as a specific target.

It said, “All specified objects were hit. The attack objectives have been achieved.”

Rescue workers continued to search for survivors throughout the night. On Sunday morning, he could be seen punching and kicking through piles of broken concrete and bent metal.

“Two rooms on the second floor are practically intact but buried,” Oleh Kushniruk, a deputy director of the regional branch of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, said on television.

A spokesman for Ukraine’s Southern Command said Russia had tested only half of the cruise missiles deployed in the Black Sea during Saturday’s attacks.

“It indicates that they still have some plans,” said spokeswoman Natalia Lyumenyuk. “We must understand that they can still be used.”

Appeal for more arms

In his nightly address following the attack, Zelensky called on Western allies to supply more arms to end the “Russian terror” and attacks on civilian targets.

Saturday’s attack came as Western powers were considering sending battle tanks to Kyiv and ahead of a meeting of Ukraine’s allies in Ramstein, Germany next Friday, where the governments will announce their latest pledges of military support.

On Saturday, Britain followed France and Poland with further arms promises, saying it would send 14 of its Challenger 2 main battle tanks as well as other advanced artillery support in the coming weeks.
