Nikolenko said the entrance to the ambassador’s flat in the Vatican had been broken into. A source at the embassy in Rome said human excreta had been left in front of the door.
Nikolaenko also said that he had received a bomb threat to the embassy in Kazakhstan, which was later unconfirmed.
He said that the embassy in the United States received a letter containing an article that was critical of Ukraine. The letter, like most others, originated from a European country, he said without giving details.
Spain’s interior ministry said that in Madrid, embassy security personnel spotted a package bearing a foreign stamp at around 1300 GMT.
The ministry said an expert unit sent to the scene confirmed that there was no explosive material.
