Seamer de Swardt was once again unlucky when Duane Oliver dropped Ravindra’s catch at deep square leg on the score of 80.

Williamson scored his fifth century in his last six Test matches, taking his career average above 55 and cementing his position as the ICC’s top-rated Test batsman.

Left-handed Ravindra’s innings came a week after he was named as the ICC Male Emerging Cricketer of the Year following his impressive run-scoring in the 50-over World Cup in India.

Almost all of South Africa’s first-choice players were unavailable for the tour due to contractual obligations to play in the country’s domestic Twenty20 league.

The six Proteas debutants are Brand, fellow opening batsman Moore, Renard van Tonder, De Swardt, wicketkeeper Clyde Fortuyn and Morecki.
