The High Court has outrightly rejected a writ petition seeking postponement of the election schedule announced for the 12th parliamentary elections.

A high court bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice MD Attabullah passed the order on Monday.

On 15 November, the Chief Election Commissioner announced the election schedule, setting 7 January 2024 as the polling day.

Yunus Ali Akanda filed a writ petition on 29 November challenging the validity of this election schedule.

The hearing on the writ took place on 3 and 4 December. After the hearing on December 4, the High Court fixed December 10 for passing the order.
Additionally, the parties were asked to submit written statements, if any.

When the matter was posted on Sunday, the writ petitioner sought time and the court fixed Monday for passing the order.

Advocate Yunus Ali Akanda himself heard in the court in favor of the writ.
