Salute to cinema, promote pioneers, encourage youth!

The filmmakers’ tenacity was lauded at the opening day discussion ‘Youth in Cinema’, moderated by the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Charles Whiteley.

In the discussion, Prothom Alo’s executive editor and renowned poet Sajjad Sharif said, ‘A new generation of young filmmakers are breaking formulaic approaches and looking for creative ways to tell stories; They are abandoning the traditional format to make the characters more believable, while venturing into unknown areas of society to create the plot.’

This observation was echoed by film activist Simin Ibnath Dharitri, who acknowledged the influence of films on youth eager to use celluloid to portray a realistic rather than an idealized version of society.

Commenting on local films, Ambassador Charles Whiteley pointed to the critically acclaimed film and Cannes Festival entry Rehana Mariam Noor, where a young woman fights a determined fight to stand up against sexual abuse in academia.

Matiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo, underlined the important role of the Bengali daily in promoting, promoting and encouraging films, theater and drama.
