According to the safety directives of the authority, we should keep distance while refueling
CNG vehicle. But yesterday’s accident took place when it was running, not refueling.
Among the seven injured, six are passengers and one is the driver himself, among them three
are siblings. They suffered serious burn in the explosion and taken to the Chittagong
Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Two of them had fifty percent burn and taken to Dhaka.
The accident took place in Tannery Bottala area while they were going to the shrine of
Bayazid Bostami on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat.
Driver Shahabuddin said, excessive pressure of the cylinder may be the cause of the
explosion.
CNG cylinder standards are not always met by the owners, which is increasing the risk of
this type of accident. In some cases some local workshops convert large diameter pipes to a
cylinder, which is not suitable. Because, a cylinder’s job is to hold compressed gas of very
high pressure. Even a standard cylinder is needed to change regularly. Police is trying to
identify the owner of the vehicle.
