Eleven people were killed and 13 others injured in road accidents in Chittagong, Benapole, Rangpur, Pabna, Bogra, Jessore and Moulvibazar early Sunday and yesterday.
Staff correspondent from Chittagong reports: An unidentified rickshaw-puller was killed when a speeding bus hit his rickshaw from behind around 9:00 am in No. 2 Mailer Matha area under Bandor Police Station in the port city yesterday, police said.
UNB adds: A trader identified as Sagir Ahmed, 50, son of late Abul Khayer, was killed when a bus rammed into a motorcycle carrying him in Uttarbazar area under Bhatiary upazila in Chittagong yesterday around 12:00 noon.
Our Benapole correspondent says: A college student Sariful Islam was killed and four others injured in a head-on-collision between a microbus and a truck on Keshobpur-Jessore road at Keshobpur upazila in Jessore Sunday night.
Injured Kamal Hossain, 32, Polash Kumer, 28, Abutaher, 27, and Ashif Uddim, 28, are now undergoing treatment at Keshobpur Health Complex.
In Rangpur, a motorcyclist was killed when another motorbike hit him on Dhaka-Rangpur Highway at Shothibari Bazar in Mithapukur upazila on Sunday evening.
Shahajahan Ali, 50, a homeopathic doctor of Chhoto Mirzapur village in the upazila died at Rangpur Medical Collage Hospital.
In another accident, three young motorcyclists identified as Shamol, Sunil and Siraj, of Rangpur sadar, were killed as a speeding bus ran over their bike on Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in Mithapukur upazila area at 1:30 pm yesterday.
Mithapukur police said the bodies were sent to RMCH morgue for autopsy.
In Pabna, a man died and five others injured as a Kariman (a three-wheeler) fell into a roadside ditch at Paglar Goly in Sujanagar upazila yesterday noon.
The dead is Habibur Rahman Habib, 40, son of Kurban Ali of village Chardulai in the upazila.
UNB reports: A young motorcyclist Rafiqul Islam Ripon died on the spot when a Dhaka bound bus hit his bike at Fuldighi in Bogra town around 9:00 am on Sunday, said M Enamul Haque, ASP of Western Highway.
The victim hailed from Joragachha village of Sonatola upazila.
In Jessore, Shariful Islam, 28, son of Shamsur Rahman of RN Road in the town was killed and four others injured in a head-on-collision between a truck and a microbus at Gohata in Keshabpur upazila on Sunday night.
Police said the victims, passengers of the microbus and students of Jessore Zila School, were returning to Jessore from Satkhira.
They were rushed to a local hospital while Shariful died on the way.
In Moulvibazar, Rangabala Das, 70, wife of late Giriza Das of Kalnigar village in Juri upazila was critically injured when a speeding private car ran over her while she was crossing the road at Gaziteka in Baralekha upazila around 1:00pm yesterday.
Locals rushed the victim to Baralekha Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared her dead. They handed over the driver Russell Mia to Baralekha police.
