The Ministry of Information, Bangladesh has issued a letter to stop the screening of the film “Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay,” a India-Bangladesh joint production. The film has been directed by Ashok Pati and Ananna Mamun and produced by Ashok Dhanuka, and is currently being screened in 57 theatre halls outside Dhaka since May 16.

Reba Rani Saha, Joint Secretary (Film) from Ministry of Information confirmed the associated press,“ A letter has been sent to the censor board to halt the screening of ‘Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay.’ The producers of the film distributed it, violating regulations. We sent the letter to the censor board on Thursday, and they are is taking care of the matter. Further steps may be taking place soon.”
However, the director and writer of the film, Ananna Mamun, tells the associated press: “I heard the news from people, but I have not yet received any kind of legal letter.”

“Currently, we are screening the movie and it is running at a full house. ‘Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay’ will be shown in the cinemas of Dhaka from May 23. Since ‘Children of War’ is running in the cinemas in the capital, we pushed back its release in the city,” he said.

However, there is criticism stating that the movie is a Kolkata-based flick starring Ankush and Shubhasree of India in the lead roles. The inclusion of Bangladeshi production house Action Cut as a producer of the film has raised questions, because it is rumoured that it is an all-out Indian film directed by Ashok Pati.

When asked about it, the director said: “The post-production was done in Bangladesh and the movie received uncut censorship. The producer came to Bangladesh and received an approval letter from the Ministry of Information, which is why we started to shoot the movie. I would like to ask: why now? Was everyone sleeping during the process to approve the film? Plotters are there to halt the screening.”
