Traditionally, elections in Bangladesh are treated as festivals, but turnout has been low in various national and local government elections over the years, due to various irregularities with the BNP boycotting the elections.

When asked, Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub ul Alam Haneef said first-time voters would take more interest as it is a national election year.

The Awami League will launch a massive campaign to increase the voter turnout, he said, adding that there could be multiple candidates from the BNP, so the elections would be competitive and voter turnout would increase.
