A joint team from Savar and Ashulia police stations launched an operation and arrested them early Sunday, said Abdullahil Kafi, Additional Superintendent of Police, Dhaka District.
In a press conference at Ashulia police station on Sunday, he said that the victim’s husband has filed a case against six people in the police station under the Prevention of Women and Child Repression Act.
Those arrested are – Mustafizur Rahman, international affairs secretary of BCL’s JU unit and student of the international relations department; Sagar Siddiqui and Hasanuzzaman, students of the same department; and Sabbir Hasan, student of the Department of Botany.
Mamunur Rashid, an acquaintance of the victim, and Mohammad Murad, who helped her take her husband hostage and beat her up, are at large.
The rape incident took place in the bush near Mir Mosharraf Hussain Hall on Saturday night at around 9.30 pm.
The accused include BCL leader Mustafizur Rahman and 45-year-old outsider Mamunur Rashid. BCL leader Mustafizur had a pre-existing relationship with Mamun, while Mamun knew the victim’s family as he was once a tenant at their residence at Jirani in Ashulia.
