US reiterates hope for free and fair elections in Bangladesh

The United States once again reiterates the importance of free and fair elections and the country’s commitment to promoting human rights, labor rights, and freedom of expression in Bangladesh.

This US position was reflected in the 9th US-Bangladesh Partnership Dialogue held in Washington, DC on 3 May. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen and US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland led their respective delegations to the dialogue.

Following the dialogue, in a tweet, Victoria Nuland said, “As we deepen US-Bangladesh ties, I met Foreign Secretary Momen of @BDMOFA and discussed promoting human rights and democratic values, including free and fair elections.” reiterated the US commitment to We thank Bangladesh for its generosity in hosting Rohingya refugees.”
