He made the appeal at a press briefing after chairing an inter-ministerial meeting at the ministry on plans to evacuate Bangladeshis from Sudan.

Alam said some Bangladeshis, now living in Sudan, may consider staying back in the war-torn African country or moving to another country, but “it will not be easy for them”.

“As the (Bangladesh) government is offering support, everyone should register themselves to exit Sudan for the sake of their safety and that of their families,” Alam said.

He said the Bangladeshi nationals would be taken from Khartoum to Port Sudan by bus on May 2 or 3 and from there they would be taken to Jeddah via Saudi Arabian-owned ships across the Red Sea in a 12-hour journey.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Khartoum has already arranged nine buses to take Bangladeshi nationals from Khartoum and nearby cities to Port Sudan.
