On Tuesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the 82-km Dhaka-Bhanga railway line running over the Padma Bridge. Passenger trains will start operating on this new railway soon.

According to sources close to the project, within the framework of the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project, a new railway line of 172 kilometers is being constructed from Dhaka to Jashore via Padma Bridge, with an estimated cost of about 400 billion taka.

At present, the railway will be operational on the Dhaka-Bhanga route spanning 82 km. Padma station is located in Qutubpur area of ​​Shibchar, Madaripur, 4 km from Padma Bridge at Shariatpur end. After a distance of 10.5 kilometres, Shibchar station is located in Daulatpur area of ​​Shibchar.

Residents of Shariatpur have to reach the train from Padma station located in Qutubpur, Shibchar, which is four kilometers away from Naodoba, the entry point of Shariatpur. Notably, it is on the opposite side from Dhaka, and a service road has been constructed for ease of access. Additionally, Shibchar station is located five kilometers away from Pachchar, and passengers have to reach there via service road.
