Family Planning Service Week-2010 starts in Gaibandha

Family planning is a very vital problem in the rural area of Bangladesh. People are not aware of having more child. They are not afraid of more children too. Different NGOs are doing fantastic job there to make people aware of this issue.

Family Planning Service Week-2010 began in all the seven upazilas in the district today with a call to strengthen the family planning activities to keep the population growth under control.

To mark the week in a befitting manner, Department of Family Planning (DFP) has chalked out the elaborate programmes. The programmes include rally, discussion and motivational campaign.

In the morning, a big colorful rally led by deputy commissioner (DC) M Shahidul Islam was brought out from Independence Square and ended at the campus of Maternity and Child Welfare Centre (MCWC) after parading the main roads of the town.

Later, a discussion was held at MCWC here with deputy director of DFP Dr Ferdous Hossain Manju in the chair while DC M Shahidul Islam addressed it and inaugurated the week long programmes as the chief guest.

The meeting was also addressed, among others, by medical officers of MCWC Dr Afsari Khanam and Dr Asaduzzaman and Sadar upazila family planning officer Jamal Uddin Mondal.

The DC in his speech urged all particularly the field level
staff of the department to increase the birth method users’ rate
and to reduce the total fertility rate through providing
permanent birth control method and motivating the people
particularly the rural and char ones.

All officials, family welfare assistants and the other staff
of the department working in the upazila including the
journalists participated in the meeting.
