The article states that according to the report on the waste management system in the Chattogram Municipal Corporation, at least 785 tonnes of waste gets mixed with the water of Karnaphuli through various canals. Most of these are plastic waste, which is harmful to the environment.

Apart from pollution, the depth of the river is also decreasing due to garbage. Along with this, polythene and plastic particles have been found in the soil raised from the river. This is highly harmful to the biodiversity of the river.
