Trade Fair in Chittagong starts today

Trade fair has been started today in port city Chittagong. Commerce Minister Faruk Khan inaugurated the fair today. Commerce Minister Faruk Khan said here on Sunday that the government would take the initiative to allocate land in favor of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) for its proposed industrial park, reports UNB.
He said the government would appoint a permanent assistant registrar for the Chittagong office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms within a week to resolve the manifold problems faced by the businesspeople.
Faruk Khan made the remarks while inaugurating the 19th Chittagong International Trade Fair 2011(CITF) at the Railway Pologround in the port city.
Thai Ambassador in Dhaka Tassanawadee Miancharoen and Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president AK Azad addressed the function as special guests with CCCI president Morshed Murad Ibrahim in the chair.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Commerce Minister Faruk Khan said Bangladesh is emerging as the ‘next eleven and frontier five’ in the global economic perspective.
He said though the government is trying its utmost to keep prices of essentials stable, a section of businessmen is trying to create trouble for the government by hiking prices of essentials.
Faruk Khan urged the businesspeople not to do anything that might harm the people and the government.
The Thai Ambassador encouraged his country’s entrepreneurs to come up with more investment in Bangladesh especially in Chittagong for power plant and paper industry.
FBCCI president AK Azad emphasized on the political stability in the country to enable the businesspeople to run their businesses smoothly.
He mentioned that Bangladesh has achieved 42 percent export growth in the last six months.
CCCI president Morshed Murad Ibrahim urged the Thai government to introduce direct flight of Thai Airways on Chittagong-Bangkok route to help Bangladesh attract foreign investment.
CCCI senior vice president Mahbubul Alam and CCCI director and fair committee co-chairman SM Mahbubul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
