UN monitors Bangladesh election process for transparency: Spokesperson

At the briefing, a Bangladeshi newspaper journalist said that more than 1,970 candidates from 28 out of 44 political parties are contesting the upcoming elections for 300 seats of the Bangladesh Parliament.

To date, there were approximately 400 foreign observers. Instead of participating in such inclusive and participatory elections, the main opposition party BNP has given boycott programs. Does the United Nations have any opinion on this matter?

“No we do not. We are just… We are monitoring this process closely and we are hopeful that all elections will be conducted in a transparent and orderly manner. That’s all we have right now,” the associate spokesperson replied.
