Water transport workers called strike |water transportation in Bangladesh

Water transportation is the cheapest way of transportation in Bangladesh. So, people who has opportunity to travel by water choose this way. Water transport workers called off their strike after a fruitful tripartite meeting among the government, water transport owners’ and the workers.
At the meeting, a 16-member committee, headed by Director of
Labour, was formed to review the demands of the workers and
suggest a reasonable pay rise.

The committee will submit a report in next 30 days, official
source said after the meeting.

The meeting at the residence of Labour Minister ended
midnight (Thursday) after hours of discussion on the workers’
demands and the possible ways to reach an understanding for the
benefit of the industry and the people.

Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport
(Passenger Carriers) Owners’ Association Chairman Mahbub Uddin
Ahmed and Senior Vice Chairman Badiuzzaman Badal, River Transport
Federation General Secretary Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam, Senior Vice
President Shah Alam and Bangladesh River Vessel Workers’
Federation leader Shukkur Mahmud attended the meeting, among
others.
