A bird trader sentenced for six months

A bird trader was apprehended with wild birds and  was sentenced to jail for six months.

The verdict was made by executive magistrate Masudur Rahman Molla at the DC office in presence of police, livestock officials and journalists.

The bird trader was sent to Lalmonirhat jail after the verdict. His name is Atoyar Rahman, he is of  Dangapara village under Dupchachia upazila in Bogra district.

According to Police Atoyar was arrested from a night coach of DR Enterprise at Lalmonirhat Bus Terminal at around 10:00pm. He was held with 166 parrots while he was taking those to Dhaka from Burimari border.

According to police Atoyar purchased the parrots from bird hunters of Burimari border area at Tk 80 to 100 each to sell each at Tk 200 to 300 in the capital city.

Bird hunters from Jessore and Kushtia often come to Burimari  area to trap parrots from maize fields where the birds gather to eat maize.

The parrots were later been sent to district lives livestock officer (DLO) to take necessary steps according to law.
