With the help of centuries from openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, Australia defeated Pakistan by 62 runs in the World Cup match in Bengaluru on Friday.

Australia’s total of 367-9 was scored by Warner’s 163 runs and Marsh’s 121 runs on his 32nd birthday.

Pakistan’s defeat was due to poor bowling and fielding which led to Warner being dropped when he had scored only 10 runs.

“It was amazing,” said man of the match Warner. “It’s great for us to go out there and have a performance like that and get scores on the board.”

Leg spinner Adam Zampa then tore apart the middle order with figures of 4-53 as Pakistan were bowled out for 305 in 45.3 overs, leaving both teams with two wins and as many losses.

Mohammad Rizwan (46) and Saud Shakeel (30) added 57 runs for the fourth wicket as Pakistan needed 168 runs from the last 20 overs, but Pat Cummins dismissed Saud Shakeel while Zampa dismissed Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed. (26) and Mohammad Nawaz (14). End their opposition.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam admitted, “The first 34 overs cost us heavily in bowling and fielding.”
