Dense fog disrupts traffic in waterways

A dense fog covered much of the country for the last 2 days leading to major traffic disruptions in air and water ways, although temperature rose a bit after three freezing days.

Two international flights were cancelled and most of the flights were delayed in both landing and departure due to a very poor visibility,

Ferry and launch services on Paturia-Daulatdia route halted for 14 hours from Thursday 8:00pm and on Mawa-Kaurakandi, traffic remained snapped for around 11 hours from midnight.

A long tailback brought misery to thousands of travellers.

At least six ferries got stuck in the middle of the river, reports BSS.

Similar scene was seen in Sadarghat Launch Terminal in the morning almost all launches made delays.

On Friday, the lowest temperature was recorded at 6.4 degrees Celsius at Sreemangal and highest 25.6 at Sitakunda. In Dhaka, lowest temperature was 10.0 degrees C and maximum 18.5, said Met officials.

On Thursday, Jessore shivered at 4.6 degrees C.

The Met office weather forecast is that the mild to moderate cold wave sweeping through Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions may continue.
