22 men and women were injured by dog bite at the north-eastern district of Moulvi Bazaar on Tuesday night. That dog bit 22 labors of tea garden and their family members within 3 hours. The dog was beaten to death by the labors yesterday morning.
16 of them were given treatment in a local hospital. Though first aid is given, most important vaccine was not available there. Local Upazila hospital asked Dhaka office for vaccine.
Last month 14 people were injured by dog bite in the capital Dhaka. July-August is the time when most dog bite incidents happen. Dog and doglike animals may carry a type of virus which may cause hydrophobia. Currently there is no treatment for hydrophobia is available in the world, and death is certain. This is why vaccination is necessary as early as possible after dog bite.
55 thousand people die in hydrophobia in the world every year and in Bangladesh more than 2 thousand dies.
