Elevated expressway is itself a controversial project and now a new dimension is added.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina pledged that this expressway project will not harm people and
authorities have been saying that they will build this project on governments land; they
will try to minimize the requirement of private land acquisition.
But now residents of Kuril, Moghbazar, Nakhalpara, Arjatpara, Khilgaon, Kamalapur and
Bhawalbagh areas saying, they have received a notice from land acquisition officer Md
Jasimuddin, which will affect about 50,000 inhabitants and traders. Now they are demanding
change in the map.
It is reported that this project may hamper future railway track expansion. May experts have
been saying that commuter trains are crucial to ease traffic congestion in the city, and
this expressway project will only ensure smooth movement of private car owners that may
inspire more people to buy private care. At the end this will worsen the situation. There
are also many examples around the world that elevated expressway were demolished due to
their adverse effects.
