Two factories were fined by a team of Department of Environment (DoE) for polluting the Shitalakkhya River in Narayanganj by discharging toxic waste yesterday. The amount of fine was 56 lakh.

These factories are Robin Tex (Bangladesh) Ltd and Fatulla Fabrics.

It is mandatory to have oxygen in a proportion of 5 mg per liter of water. This amount of oxygen is essential for conserving aquatic lives. The team of DoE did not find such amount of oxygen in water.

The director of DoE asked the factories to stop discharging toxic waste. They have also directed Titas Gas authority to disconnect the gas line of one of the factories
