Facebook users cautioned

Facebook users of Bangladesh are asked to be cautious about their privacy setup of their Facebook accounts. Some people are tagging objectionable materials especially cartoons and photos on other user’s accounts.

Recent sectarian violence in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazaar was sparked by a photo which was said to be tagged by a Buddist youth. Later it was found that it was a page only to trigger the violence.

A special cell of BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission) is working against cyber crime. The cell has already received more than a thousand complaints in its nine month age; most of the complainants are female students. Some fake facebook IDs are opened in the name of other female students. Photos of them were stolen from their original accounts. Several people are arrested and jailed. High Court ordered to block five facebook pages for hurting religious belief in last May.
