Illegal gold traffickers have been using Bangladesh as their relatively safe route. Now customs officials have strengthen surveillances and it seems result is coming. It is said that gold traders do not import gold legally because they depend on illegal import. Hence government is losing revenue.
Customs officials have seized significant amount of gold in recent months. Gold is seized at Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet international airport.
On 19th September a man was arrested with ten gold bars at Shahjalal International Airport by Armed Police Battalion. On sixth day of that, another man named Masud Rana is arrested at the same airport. He was carrying one hundred and four gold bars weighing twelve kilograms in his shoe and pant. Officials say they searched the man on information from anonymous source and price of the seized gold would be about five crore taka. That man reached Dhaka from Dubai by a flight of Emirates.
