The letter addressed to JICA President Akihiko Tanaka said the COVID-19 situation, Russia-Ukraine war, rise in global food prices, disruption of crop production by floods have contributed to the rise in inflation in Bangladesh.

The government made minor adjustments in the prices of power, fuel and fertilizers to counter the subsidy. The development budget has also been reduced.

In addition, a time-bound system for fuel prices will be introduced from the next financial year.

The letter mentions that the $320 million fund from JICA will be used for infrastructure development, social security and job creation.
