India may export gas to Bangladesh

Some years ago international oil companies lectured Bangladesh to export gas. They said gas reserve of Bangladesh is more than required.
But the scenario has changed. The country is facing severe energy crisis. The state owned gas exploration company BAPEX has explored some gas field in recent years, but that seems not enough to meet the growing demand.

Power plants and industries including fertilizer factories have been facing severe gas shortage. The  authority was compelled to shut down some plants.

Now the government has eyed on India. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran has discussed o this issue today. This gas may be imported through Siliguri-Rangpur route. The Indian High Commissioner also conveyed Eid greetings to Sheikh Hasina form Indian president and prime minister. It is reported that they also discussed on some longstanding issues like demarcation of India Bangladesh border.
