technical glitch in dhaka

Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) and Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) supply electricity in the capital city of Dhaka.

Statistics of both these organizations say that the demand for electricity has increased more than normal. Supply is available on demand. Power transmission lines have not been upgraded according to power generation capacity. As such now some power distribution transformers fail to take the extra supply.

The power supply gets interrupted due to a sudden power trip. On Monday, the people of Banasari had to face power cut for several hours since morning due to transformer failure.

The peak demand for DESCO is 1,000 to 1,200 MW in summer. This time up to 1,291 MW has been supplied. At present, the normal demand of DPDC is considered to be 1,600 to 1,800 MW. The maximum supply is 1,865 MW.

Due to the scorching heat, many people are getting new ACs installed. Due to this, more electricity is being consumed.

As a result, the power supply shut down because the individual power lines could not take the pressure. There are frequent power cuts at many places. Customers are complaining about load shedding.

However, DPDC Managing Director Vikas Dewan and DESCO Managing Director Kausar Amir Ali told Pratham Aalo that there was no shortage of power supply. They are not load shedding. There are some technical difficulties. However, if a consumer requests to increase the load, it is increased.
