Ministers and MLAs are desperate to make way for successors in the upazilas. Prothom Aloe Report

The Awami League has clarified that the children of ministers and MPs are relatives, and has seen ministers and MPs fielding their children to chairperson positions in the first three phases of upazila elections.

The first phase of upazila elections will be held on May 8. In this phase, Asibur Rehman Khan, son of Awami League presidium member and MLA Shazhan Khan, is contesting for the post of president in Sadar upazila of Madaripur; In Noakhali's Subarnachar, Atahar Ishraq Shabab Choudhary, son of MLA Mohammad Ekramul Karim Choudhary and in Bogura's Sariyakandi, Mohammad Shakawat Hussain, son of MLA Shahdara Mannan Shilpi, while Aashiq Ali, son of MLA Mohammad Ekramul Karim, are poised to win. Unopposed in Hatia, Noakhali.

In the second phase, Rakibuzzaman Ahmed, son of former social welfare minister and MLA Nuruzzaman Ahmed, became the presidential candidate in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat. Rakibuzzaman Ahmed is also the organizing secretary of the district unit of Awami League. Apart from this, Golam Hasnain, son of Pabna's Bhangura MLA Mohammad Mokbul Hussain and Saiful Alam, son of Noakhali's Senbagh MLA Morshed Alam are also contesting the elections.
