New Zealand made it four wins from four at the Cricket World Cup on Wednesday with a crushing 149-run defeat of Afghanistan, who had fallen behind after their surprise win over defending champions England.

The Black Caps scored 288-6 with the help of half-centuries from Glenn Phillips, Tom Latham and Will Young as Afghanistan paid a heavy price for dropping five catches.

Rahmat Shah scored the most runs for Afghanistan, however, with 36 runs in 62 balls, but his team was all out for just 139 runs in 34.4 overs.
