However, Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Belal Hussain claimed that cases were being registered on the basis of specific crimes. He denied any harassment by the police and said they were only arresting persons with arrest warrants and those accused in routine cases.

According to BNP and police sources, 11 cases were registered in seven police stations of Jashore between 5 and 10 October, in which 200 named persons and 500 unnamed BNP and Jamaat members were accused.

Police have so far arrested 77 leaders and activists in connection with the cases. In the district, two cases each were reported at Kotwali, Benapole, Sharsha, Jhikargacha, Chowgacha and Bagharpara police stations, while one case was reported at Abhaynagar police station.
