After decades of neglect it seems the Bangladesh railway is receiving attention from the authority. After the colonial period the rail network was kept almost without any expansion, even the railway workshop of Sayedpur was kept nearly idle. Though Sayedpur and Pahartoli railway workshops are capable of producing rail coaches. These workshops can also repair rail engines and coaches.
Now the Sayedpur workshop is doing coach repair work and authority is planning to produce coaches locally instead of importing. New trains for different cities and towns were a long standing public demand.
Now a new train on Dhaka-Rangpur route will run from today. Communication minister, Syed Abul Hossain is expected to inaugurate this new intercity train, Rangpur Express. It will have 12 compartments and 800 seats. It will leave Rangpur at 7:40 pm and reach Dhaka at 6:35 am; leave Dhaka at 9:00 am and reach Rangpur at 7:00 pm. It will reach Dhaka via Kaunia, Gaibandha, Bonarpara, Bogra, Shantahar, Natore, Bangubandhu Bridge. Sunday will be its holiday. This new train starts after ten years of suspension of rail communication between Dhaka and Rangpur.
