Romanian prosecutors said Thursday they have detained divisive internet personality and former professional kickboxer Andrew Tate on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organized crime group.
Banned from several social media platforms for anti-women comments and hate speech, Tate and his brother Tristan will be detained for 24 hours along with two Romanian suspects in a statement after their properties in Bucharest were raided by anti-organised-crime Unit prosecutors said.
The Tate brothers have been under criminal investigation since April.
He declined to comment but his lawyer confirmed he had been taken into custody.
