Russia’s foreign ministry called for “maximum restraint” on Saturday after violence in Israel and the West Bank marked a further escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“We watch this development of events with deep concern. We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prevent further escalation of tensions,” the ministry said in a statement.

It added, “Recent events clearly confirm the need to resume a constructive Palestinian-Israeli dialogue and to abandon unilateral actions.”

An attack on a synagogue in Jerusalem on Friday killed seven people and injured two others in an attack in the city on Saturday morning.

The shooting came after nine Palestinians were killed in an Israeli army operation in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
