A group of countries led by Britain, the United States, Germany and Norway is set to request an urgent meeting of the UN Human Rights Council on the Sudan crisis next week, a document showed on Friday.

Across Khartoum, factories, banks and shops have been looted or damaged, electricity and water supplies are failing and residents have reported steep increases in prices and shortages of basic goods.

Entire neighborhoods have been evacuated, leaving people fearful for the homes they left behind.

Aya Eltahir said she fled with her family to the northern outskirts of the capital after her terrace was hit by bullets.

“I plan to return every day, even just to grab more essentials, but the situation is very unsafe,” she said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said at least 551 civilians were killed and 4,926 injured, based on figures from Sudan, but the real number was likely much higher due to difficulty accessing medical facilities.
