“There is a considerable spread in model intensity guidance, ranging from minimal to major hurricane status prior to landfall on the northeastern Gulf Coast,” NHC said.

The NHC predicted that Idalia would reach Florida by 7:00 a.m. (1100 GMT) on Wednesday, with an image showing the storm’s likely path.

The NHC said that at 0300 GMT on Monday, Idalia was moving over the Caribbean, moving to the northeast with maximum sustained winds near 60 miles (95 kilometers) per hour.

NHC said a hurricane and storm surge warning has been issued for parts of the Florida coast and sporadic flooding is expected.
Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency in 33 counties to prepare for the storm’s arrival.
