Five persons were killed in two separate road accidents in Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.

Three passengers of an auto rickshaw were killed on the spot and two others were injured when a truck rammed it from behind at Goainhat in Sylhet in the afternoon.

Goainghat police OC Shafiqur Rahman identified two of the deceased as Farid Ahmed, 55, hailing from Sylhet’s Bateswar, and Brahmanbaria’s Monir Uddin, 50.

He, however, could not tell the identity of others.

The injured had been hospitalised.

Agitated over the incident, locals blocked the Sylhet-Tamabil Highway for around an hour.

The truck has been confiscated but the driver managed to abscond.

In Cox’s Bazar, two persons were killed on the spot when a bus hit a motorcycle they were riding at Chokoria around 3:30pm.

Police identified the deceased as Forhad Hossain, a BA first year student of Matamuhuri College hailing from Bandarban’s Lama, and Nurul Kabir, hailing from the same area.

Malumghat Highway police OC Shafiqul Islam said the duo was returning from a visit to the Bangabandhu Safari Park at Dulahazra when a bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ ran them over.

Police have confiscated the bus.
