State owned Bangladesh Television celebrated its 48th anniversary yesterday. Journey of today’s Bangladesh Television was started on 25th December, 1964 as Dhaka station of Pakistan Television. It was the first television in this region; even Calcutta didn’t have television at that time.
BTV had audience outside the border also. Those glorious days are gone.
Still Bangladesh Television is the only terrestrial television of Bangladesh. But BTV is failing to compete with private satellite channels. Now BTV is transmitting their programs via satellite also.
BTV programs lack in quality and this media always works as the spokesman of the ruling party, not of the citizen.
To mark the day BTV arranged a celebration program yesterday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina talked with BTV officials and the information minister through video conferencing from her residence.
She said that BTV’s program quality has improved in recent days but it needs to do more. BTV needs to uphold the spirit of liberation war. BTV needs to focus more on educational and agricultural programs.
