At least six buses, covered van, private car were torched in the city on the eve of 48-hour
hatal called by the opposition parties.
A new dimension is found yesterday. Because, people residing in Dhaka has seen vandalization
of public transport at the night before the hartal day. But yesterday it started at noon.
At first a 52 seat bus was set on fire at Motijheel area near ideal School and college. Fire
service official said, it may be a case of sabotage or due to gas cylinder explosion.
Buses and private car was torched across the city including, Shantinagar, Jatrabari,
Chankharpool, Kazipara, Rampura and Mohakhali.
A cracker was exploded near main opposition party BNP office.
Employees suffered while their way back home after the end of their office. Bus owners
almost stopped running their buses amid fear of torching.
Port city Chittagong also suffered nearly same type of vandalization.
Home minister Shahara Khatun blamed BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami for the violence. But
BNP spokesman said it is the work of govt. supported terrorists and denied involvement with
this type of activities.
