The gas pressure has been gradually increasing since the start of gas supply from the floating terminal through pipelines. The supply increases as the pressure of the gas increases. Then it reaches the customers through a distribution company. Typically a maximum of 500 million cubic feet of gas is supplied from one terminal.

Speaking to Prothom Alo over phone this morning, Petrobangla Director (Operations and Mines) MD Kamruzzaman said, “LNG supply has started in the pipelines. “The pressure is gradually increasing, so the supply is increasing.”

Earlier on Friday, the gas distribution system in the eastern part of the country collapsed due to a delay in commissioning US-based company Accelerate Energy’s LNG terminal after it was brought back for maintenance work. Due to some technical glitches at the terminal, gas supply was disrupted in six districts of the eastern region – Chattogram, Cumilla, Noakhali, Feni, Lakshmipur and Narayanganj. People in these districts had to face a lot of trouble due to sudden interruption of gas supply without any prior notice from the distribution companies. This also disrupted industrial production.
