Hollywood writers sign new deal, ending 148-day strike

Last month, after a 148-day strike, WGA negotiators reached an agreement with companies like Netflix and Disney that secured better wages, more protections from artificial intelligence, minimum staffing levels and more. In anticipation of confirmation of the deal, most writers returned to work about two weeks early.

Yet, film and television production in Hollywood has still not resumed in earnest, as the much larger Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA), representing 160,000 performers, is on strike. Negotiations between the studios and SAG-AFTRA, which went on strike in July, finally began last week and were scheduled to resume on Monday.
