The Genocide-Torture Museum, established in May 2014, is collecting mementos, photographs, books, publications and documents of the martyrs, besides collecting detailed information on the basis of the mass murder and the identity of the genocide.

Chaudhary Shahid Kader, trustee secretary of the museum, said: “We are conducting searches across the country to gather information on the massacre and mass killing sites. One of our researchers, working at the field level, found Mazharul Islam’s shroud.”

“We are collecting such memorabilia. We are also collecting the mortal remains of the martyrs from the mass killing sites.”

About three million Bengalis were killed during the war. Like Mazharul, many of them were victims of the massacre and were denied a proper burial. Mass graves with the bones of the martyrs were found at many places up and down the country.

Bangladesh is now working to get international recognition for the massacre perpetrated by the Pakistani army and its local collaborators.

The country observes March 25 as National Genocide Day to remember and mourn the victims of the mass killings that began that night in 1971.
