Hours after the incident, officials said an array of resources were being deployed to assist students, families and teachers involved with the shooting.

Education Minister Branko Rujic told the media, “A team of psychologists and others was called immediately to provide adequate support to students, staff and parents during this traumatic period.”

Ruzic called the shooting “the biggest tragedy” that has happened to the Serbian school system in recent history.

“It’s unimaginable when you look at those scenes, what it was like for the kids who felt that fear, for the guards and teachers when they tried to protect the kids,” Rujic said.

The minister dismissed media reports that “no conclusions had been drawn” that bullying was a possible motive in the shooting.

Rujic said Serbia would observe three days of mourning, while a minute’s silence would be observed in schools across the country on Thursday.
