The nation celebrated its 41st victory day today. On this day in 1971 about ninety three thousand Pakistani occupation forces surrendered to the joint forces comprising by Indian army and Bangladeshi Mukti Bahini.
It was a war of only nine months, but it is one of the bloodiest wars of independence in modern history. Many Bengali soldiers and officers of Pakistan army joined the war against the Pakistani occupation forces. Common people from all ages took arms on hand and endangered their lives for liberation.
The liberation war was a consequence of deprivation of twenty three years. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led the movement against injustice. AL won the parliament election of 1970 but Pakistani military government didn’t accept Mujib as the Prime Minister.
Prime minister, opposition leader, ministers and peoples from all walks streamed to National Mausoleum with wreath at Savar today to pay homage to those who lost their life in the war.
