Hefazat sources said almost all its leaders and activists are free on bail. Last Friday, former joint general secretary of Hifazat Mamunul Haq was released from Kashimpur jail.

Of the cases, 53 were reported in Dhaka and the remaining 30 in Narayanganj, Chattogram, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Cox's Bazar and Lokkhipur. Late Junaid Babunagari, the then general secretary of Hefazat, and 87 other top leaders of the organization were arrested.

Police headquarters sources said police filed chargesheets in four cases registered in Dhaka and 17 cases registered outside Dhaka. Final reports were filed in two cases. In 2014, chargesheet was submitted in 15 cases.

Four charge sheet cases were filed in Bagerhat. In 2013, two men from Hefazat were killed in clashes with police on 5 and 6 May. Police registered four cases at Fakirhat police station and two at Bagerhat Sadar police station. A total of 88 leaders and workers of Hefazat, Jamaat and BNP were named in the cases, while 10 to 15 thousand unidentified people were also made accused.
